Monique Smeets
Monique Smeets is professor of psychology at Utrecht University and science leader at Unilever R&D Vlaardingen. Her background is in experimental and cognitive psychology. She specializes in the study of perception, specifically via the chemical senses, smell and taste. She spent her post-doctoral years in the United States, working at Harvard University, Pennington Biomedical Research Center and Monell Chemical Senses Center before returning to the Netherlands. She is interested in how smell and taste trigger approach and avoidance behaviour in a social context, and how such insights can be used to guide behaviour change in the interest of sustainability towards better health and hygiene.
