Montagu James

Montagu James is a Ph.D. student in the Department of History at Brown University. He works on the cultural and political history of twentieth-century Central and Eastern Europe, focusing on the relationship between politics, religion and the arts in authoritarian regimes. He holds a BA from Princeton University with a degree in history and certificates in Italian language and culture and music performance and received a Master of Philosophy in modern European history from the University of Cambridge. His current research projects include the role of classical music in the cultural Cold War and East–West relations, as well as the effects of Polish and Italian nationalism and authoritarianism on Catholic human rights discourse.
