Nancy Johnson-Hunt

Nancy Johnson-Hunt is a former advertising strategist turned doctoral candidate at Auckland University of Technology (AUT). After a decade-long career within the advertising and marketing industry, both in New Zealand and in North America, she returned to AUT, undertaking her Ph.D. within the Popular Culture Research Centre. Her thesis explores the representation of ethnicity in popular reality television dating shows and how these portrayals conform to, or challenge, stereotypes historically constructed to amplify racialized bodies, spaces and issues. Nancy’s research interests include the diffusion of advertising culture, construction of ethnic and racial identity across popular culture and the influence of celebrity media in shaping everyday lives.
