Nick Rubin received his Ph.D. in Music from the University of Virginia in 2010. His dissertation, ‘Signing on: College rock radio and the popular music industry, 1977–1983’, breaks ground as the first substantial scholarly work to focus on the emergence of the college radio phenomenon. Nick has taught extensively in the Departments of Music, Media Studies, and Sociology at UVA, and he serves Charlottesville, Virginia’s music scene as a volunteer DJ and Community Advisory Board member at WTJU, as a producer of local concerts, and as a working musician.
