Nicolas Ian Coffman
Nicolas Ian Coffman, Ph.D., is a music educator and researcher focused on the use of technology in music education and is currently based in Quito, Ecuador. Nicolas’s educational goals are founded upon the inclusion of learners in engaging musical experiences across ability levels. His recent dissertation work entitled ‘Finding my sound: Creative musical identity development of undergraduates in a popular electronic music program’ was focused on the impact of performance-centred compositional practices using digital technology on student self-concept. His past work and teaching used digital musical instruments seeks to explore the benefits developing embodied music cognition in educational practices. Nicolas’s current research focus is on the educational possibilities in immersive technologies and the relevance of interactive audio-visual art and video games in music education.
