Nicole Brossard
Nicole Brossard published her first book in 1965 and the same year, co-founded the influential literary magazine La Barre du Jour. A poet, novelist, and essayist, she co-directed the film Some American Feminists in 1976. Brossard has published eight novels including Picture Theory, Mauve Desert, Baroque at Dawn, an essay “The Aerial Letter” and many books of poetry including Daydream Mechanics, Lovhers, Typhon Dru, Installations, Musée de l’os et de l’eau. She was awarded the Governor General’s award for poetry twice, in 1974 and 1984 and won Le Grand Prix de Poésie de la Foundation les Forges in 1989 and 1999. In 1991 Brossard was awarded Le Prix Athanase-David for a lifetime of literary achievement. That same year she received the Harbourfront Festival Prize and became a member of L’Académie des Lettres du Québec. In 2019 she received the Griffin Lifetime Recognition Award. Brossard lives in Montréal.
