O. B. Alakija

Funmi Alakija received their Ph.D. from the University of Leicester, United Kingdom, and an MA in language and communication arts (University of Ibadan, Nigeria). She has worked in public relations and advertising and as a social researcher and educator in Nigeria, Brazil and England. She is presently a senior lecturer, the first female head of the Department of Mass Communication, Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, in its 42 years of existence. Dr Alakija’s research interests include migration, diaspora and diasporic media. She is a member of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations, Association for the Study of the Worldwide African Diaspora, Association of Communication Scholar and Professionals in Nigeria, Women in Technical Education, Journalism Education and Trauma Research Group (JETREG), Association of Media and Communication Researchers of Nigeria and the International Association for Media and Communication Research. She speaks English, Yorùbá and Portuguese fluently.
