Şölen Kipöz
Dr Şölen Kipöz is an associate professor in the Department of Textile and Fashion Design at Izmir University of Economics. Her publications focus on fashion studies and conceptual design works on ethical, social and sustainable fashion. Her book entitled Sustainable Fashion (Yeni İnsan Yayınevi, 2015), published in Turkish, has been influential in promoting slow and ethical fashion in Turkey. Her notable works include a personal exhibition Ahimsa: The Other Life of Clothes (2012), her installations and performances for PortIzmir International Contemporary Art Triennial (2014), two exhibitions, Asteya (2017) and Salvaged Leather (2019), and an installation entitled A Sympoietic Fashion Practice: Bonds, co-created with Witches of the East Collective for the International Turkish Textile Biennial. A personalizable rag doll which can be produced by the users themselves was introduced in the installation The Legacy in the Pocket, and was registered as a utility model by the Turkish Patent Institute in 2015. Kipöz co-created this project with women’s communities, children and teenagers. Her latest book Slowness in Fashion (Yeni İnsan Yayınevi, 2020) explores the state of the art of ethical and slow fashion in Turkey and was published both in Turkey and the United Kingdom.
