Ondřej Beránek

Ondřej Beránek is the director of the Oriental Institute of the Czech Academy of Sciences. He received his Ph.D. in Arabic and Islamic studies from Charles University, Prague. As part of his education he also studied Arabic in Tunisia and Arabic and Islamic culture at the King Saud University in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. During 2005–07, he was a fellow at the Center for Middle Eastern Studies, Harvard University and in 2007–09, he was a postdoctorate fellow at the Crown Center for Middle East Studies, Brandeis University. His research studies focus on the modern and contemporary history of the Middle East, political Islam, the history of Saudi Arabia and Salafi ideology.
