Pablo Estévez Hernández

Pablo Estévez Hernández is assistant professor of anthropology of tourism at the Escuela Universitaria de Turismo Iriarte, The University of La Laguna, Tenerife, Spain. His research work is focused on ethnic categories, borders and mobility, but his interests expand to tourism and power, to the metaphors through which the territory thinks itself and to travelling cultures. Within these coordinates, he has written several articles on censuses and migration, and edited a book on tourism (Souvenir, Souvenir, an Anthropologist before Tourism [Concreta, 2019]). He has presented several papers in different congresses and conferences, in addition to having curated an exhibition on Spanish Africanism and participated with several pieces for art exhibitions in Tenerife. In turn, he has collaborated with the ethnographic entries of intangible culture for a joint project between the Canary Islands government and UNESCO: ‘Atlas of Intangible Heritage of the Canary Islands’. Finally, he is a professor of the subject ‘material culture and tourism experience’ in the master’s degree in design innovation for the tourism sector, at the University of La Laguna.
