Paul David Sherman

Dr Paul Sherman is programme head and professor in the family and community social services programme at the University of Guelph-Humber in Toronto, Canada. He is also director of the University of Guelph-Humber’s Soka Education Research Initiative on Global Citizenship (SERI-GC). Paul trained and worked as a clinician and senior administrator in non-profit community mental health settings for over thirty years before moving into the field of higher education. He earned his undergraduate honours degree in psychology from York University (Toronto), his postgraduate diploma in child assessment and counselling from the University of Toronto, and his Ph.D. in education and social justice at the University of Lancaster, UK. His research interests include Soka education and global citizenship in higher education. Paul teaches an undergraduate-level course on global citizenship and conducts an annual short-term study abroad course to Japan entitled ‘An introduction to Soka education: The pursuit of happiness’. He has also led study-abroad courses to Sweden and Italy.
