Peter Burke

Dr Peter Burke uses marketing strategies to generate social interactions in public space. He does this in order to examine topical issues and to question the general condition of contemporary society. His cross-disciplinary approach embraces performance, painting, drawing and the mass media. His Ph.D. research project, ‘Pop-Up Art: Performing Creative Disruption in Social Space’ consisted of a series of performative and participatory projects that investigated how artistic interventions in the street and commercial or artworld marketplaces can critique power relations. Peter regularly exhibits work in Australia and overseas, most recently at ‘Streetwise’, Haifa, Israel (2019) and ‘Unfinished: Décor (II)’, AirSpace, Sydney (2019).
