Peter Sluglett
Peter Sluglett was the Director of the Middle East Institute, at the National University of Singapore from 2011 to his untimely death in 2017. He taught Middle East History at the University of Durham (1974–94) and was the Director of the Middle East Centre at the University of Utah (1994–2011). With Marion Farouk-Sluglett (1936–96) he is author of Iraq Since 1958: From Revolution to Dictatorship, London and New York, 1987, 1991; he is also author of Britain in Iraq: Contriving King and Country, London and New York 2007. This article, written just before his death, is likely one of his last scholarly efforts.
