Petra Kuppinger

Petra Kuppinger is Professor of Anthropology at Monmouth College in Monmouth, IL, United States. She has conducted research on cities, spaces, globalization, urban cultures and religions in Cairo, Egypt and Stuttgart, Germany. Her publications include Faithfully Urban: Pious Muslims in a German City (2015); ‘Pools, Piety, and Participation: A Muslim Women’s Sports Club and Urban Citizenship in Germany’, Journal of Muslim Minority Affairs; ‘Flexible Topographies: Muslim Spaces in a German Cityscape’, Social and Cultural Geography; ‘Crushed? Cairo’s Garbage Collectors and Neoliberal Urban Politics’, Journal of Urban Affairs; and ‘Cinderella Wears a Hijab: Neighborhoods, Islam, and the Everyday Production of Multi-Ethnic Urban Cultures in Germany’, Space and Culture. She is President (2014–16) of SUNTA (Society for Urban National and Transnational Anthropology).
