Pia Gottschaller

Pia Gottschaller is a technical art historian with a specialization in modern and contemporary painting practice, who teaches as a senior lecturer at The Courtauld. She holds a BA in art history from Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität, Munich, a postgraduate diploma in the conservation of easel paintings from The Courtauld, London and a Ph.D. in art technology from Technische Universität München. Her monographs, edited volumes and essays focus on post-war European, North American and Latin American artists and movements, and a new book project for Getty Publications examines the role of unusual tools in contemporary painting processes.
