Po-Lung Huang

Po-Lung Huang is a Ph.D. candidate in the Graduate School of Intercultural Studies at Kobe University, Japan. His master’s thesis was on the policing of street dance in Taiwan. His dissertation concerns the diffusion of hip hop culture and especially the transcribed embodiment of the African-diasporic ‘call and response’ structure in Taiwanese, Japanese and Chinese street dance contexts, by examining manga/anime, films, street dance contests, discourses and social issues that are related to the culture, and by adopting Charles Taylor’s concept of ‘a language of perspicuous contrast’.
