Pola Szczap
Pola Szczap (she/her) is a Ph.D. candidate at the Faculty of Oriental Studies, University of Warsaw, currently preparing her dissertation in linguistics on the topic of place names of Ulaanbaatar. Her research interests concentrate around the intersection of language and the urban within the Mongolian milieu. To date she has published both printed and multimedia works on topics related to Ulaanbaatar history, place naming and urban planning policies as well as Mongolian hip hop. She is interested in hip-hop historiography and knowledge transfer within the culture. Previously active as a rapper, hip hop community organizer and educator for disenfranchised youths, she sees these experiences as greatly informing her academical practice, including her course on Mongolian hip-hop, taught at the University of Warsaw. While in Ulaanbaatar she regularly leads urban exploration tours around the city. Pola is part of the European Hiphop Studies Network.
