Priya A. Thomas

Priya Thomas is a dance historian with a multidisciplinary critical practice that straddles dance, music, performance, theatre, digital media, public art and community-based projects. Her SSHRC-funded research on transgressive materialities (particularly as emblematized by performances of the nonhuman/monster in the long nineteenth century), has appeared in a range of scholarly anthologies and academic journals. Thomas is assistant professor at Texas Woman’s University in the Department of Dance where she teaches in the BA, MA and Ph.D. dance programmes. She holds a Ph.D. in dance from York University, and a BA in religious studies from McGill University.
