Rebecca Pride
Rebecca Pride is associate director for the Graduate School at Arts University Bournemouth, working first as senior lecturer and then course leader for the BA (Hons) costume and performance design, and MA historical costume courses. Rebecca studied for her postgraduate degree at the Slade School of Fine Art, specializing in theatre design, and then spent fifteen years working as a theatre designer working on many diverse projects including The Bacchae of Euripides, Joe Orton’s What the Butler Saw and Brecht’s The Threepenny Opera. Although Rebecca worked as designer throughout her career, costume supervision has always been an interest and describing the process of supervising formed the focus of her book, The Costume Supervisor’s Toolkit (Taylor & Francis, 2018). Rebecca also edited a publication, Drawing Theatre: Pamela Howard (The Gallery, Arts University Bournemouth, 2016), that was long listed for The Best Performance Design and Scenography Publication Prize at the Prague Quadrennial (2019). In recognition of the quality of work of the staff and students during her time as course leader for the BA costume and performance design course, Rebecca was presented by King Charles III with the Queens Anniversary Prize for Higher and Further Education (2016–18) for ‘Excellence in Costume Design’.
