Ricardo Paes Mamede

Ricardo Paes Mamede has been assistant professor of political economy at ISCTE – Instituto Universitário de Lisboa and a researcher at DINÂMIA’CET-IUL, ISCTE – Instituto Universitário de Lisboa since 1999. Between 2008 and 2014 he also coordinated the Research and Evaluation Department at the NSRF Observatory, the government agency responsible for monitoring the use of EU structural funds in Portugal during the period 2007–13. In 2007 and 2008 he was head of the economic analysis unit in the Portuguese Ministry of the Economy and Innovation’s Research Bureau. He has a Ph.D. in economics from Bocconi University (Italy) and a Master’s in economics and management of science and technology from the Lisbon School of Economics and Management (ISEG), Universidade de Lisboa. His research interests are in the fields of innovation and industry dynamics, structural change, European integration, and public policies. In 2014 he coedited (with Aurora Teixeira and Ester Silva) the book Structural Change, Competitiveness and Industrial Policy: Painful Lessons from the European Periphery (Routledge).
