Rita Benis

Rita Benis is a researcher in the Centre for Comparative Studies, School of Arts and Humanities, University of Lisbon. With a grant from FCT, she is currently finishing her doctorate on the screenplays of Manoel de Oliveira. She has a master’s degree in comparative literature and has taught screenwriting and history of cinema. Rita co-edited the online magazine, False Movement - Studies on Writing and Film, and has also translated books and published articles/chapters on the relationship between image and writing. Also an award-winning screenwriter, she has worked in cinema since 2000, collaborating with Teresa Villaverde, Margarida Gil, Inês Oliveira, António Cunha Telles, Vincent Gallo and Catherine Breillat, among others.
