Roaa Ali

Roaa Ali completed her Ph.D. at the Department of Drama and Theatre Arts at the University of Birmingham (December 2015) with Prof James Harding as an external examiner. Entitled ‘Arab American drama post 9/11: Cultural discourses of an Othered identity’, her thesis investigates the representation of ethnic minorities in post 9/11 American cultural scene and theatre. She is currently preparing her thesis to be published as a monograph through Palgrave Macmillan. Her recent publications include: ‘The women’s march that welcomed the hijab as a sign of dissidence’ in Interdisciplinary Perspectives on Equality and Diversity Journal and ‘Arab American theatre: Still a struggle for visibility’ in Al Jadid magazine. Some of her forthcoming publications are to appear in The Bloomsbury Companion to Performance and Interculturalism (co-edited by Daphne Lei and Charlotte McIvor), the Routledge Accessibility, Inclusion, and Diversity in Critical Events Studies (co-edited by Rebecca Finkel and Briony Sharp) and in the Research in Drama Education Journal (RiDE).
