Robert Bettmann
Robert Bettmann is the author of Somatic Ecology: Somatics, Nature, Humanity and the Human Body (VDM Verlag, 2009) and founder of the non-profit Day Eight. Following a degree in environmental studies from Oberlin College, he trained on scholarship at the Alvin Ailey school and School of the Washington Ballet. He has performed and taught broadly, including related to recent work in arts journalism and as director of an arts writing fellowship programme. He received an MA in education from George Washington University in 2019. Spring 2020 he was funded by the Chesapeake Bay Trust to create the programme described in this article, the Anacostia Swim Club, and to increase area engagement with the Anacostia waterway.
