Robert Doran
Rob Doran trained with Australian master teacher Lyn Kidd from 1994 to 1996 to teach and direct her acting technique, the Psychology of Character. He then developed her programme into an Advanced Diploma of Film, Television and Theatre Acting, accredited under the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF). Rob has managed vocational institutions across the creative industries, including his role as Training and Artistic Director of the Aboriginal Centre for the Performing Arts. He has been writing, teaching and directing for theatre for over 20 years. His most recent productions include: Spirit of the Lore (2013) and Moiety (2016) for the Queensland Performing Arts Centre; Mortality (2017) and Polity (2017) for the Adelaide Fringe Festival; and Battle Scarred Phallic Wounds (2014), Orion’s Way (2014), Agender (2014), Assumptions (2015), and Hunting Phia (2016) for The Actors Workshop Australia. His short story Only Cable Car in Ireland was published by the Glasgow Review of Books (2017). Rob currently works for Central Queensland University as an associate lecturer in creative arts. His current research focus is on the relationship between the actor’s craft and Heidegger’s concept of Dasein.
