Roger Horrocks
Roger Horrocks worked as Len Lye’s assistant during the last year of the filmmaker’s life. Subsequently, he has written books about him, including Len Lye: A Biography and Art That Moves. Roger is a trustee of the Len Lye Foundation. At the University of Auckland, he was the founding head of the Department of Film and Media Studies, and is now an emeritus professor. In 2019, he received the Pou Aronui award from the Royal Society of New Zealand for ‘distinguished service in the humanities’. He has written widely on film and literary topics, and also has a number of film credits. Art That Moves, his film about Lye, won the Van Gogh Prize at the 2019 Amsterdam Film Festival. Along with his wife Shirley Horrocks, he has for many years been a director of the film company Point of View Productions.
