Romana B. Mirza

Romana B. Mirza is assistant professor of fashion management and social justice at Parsons School of Design at The New School in New York City. Employing a theoretical lens rooted in intersectionality and cultural hybridity, Romana’s research uses arts- and media-engaged methodologies to advance social justice and challenge Islamophobic assumptions surrounding modest dressing and the dominant narrative that marginalizes Muslim women. Romana advocates for social justice, addressing the stigma that has long been associated with modest dressing to transform narrow understandings and stereotypes to advance inclusion. Romana’s commitment to inclusivity and social justice is evident in her academic journey, as she pursues a Ph.D. in communication and culture from Toronto Metropolitan and York Universities in Toronto, Canada. Passionate about education, Romana inspires graduate and undergraduate students to champion social justice, challenging prevailing tropes and fostering diversity in fashion.
