Ros Hawley

Ros Hawley is a UK-based clarinettist, workshop leader, trainer and researcher who has worked extensively in disability and healthcare settings. As a music for health specialist with the award winning arts and health organization Lime Arts, she delivers training for students from the Royal Northern College of Music in the programme, music for health, that encourages students to develop musically interactive, communicative and improvisatory skills within the context of the hospital setting. Her practice focuses on taking a child centred approach to creating opportunities for communication, interaction, expression and enjoyment through making music. A keen collaborator, she has worked alongside guitarist and composer Mark Fisher for many years, and their work together forms the basis of the Songbirds project discussed in this article. She is currently writing about her practice as a musician in hospital for a Ph.D. at SOAS, London UK.
