Santhi Kavuri-Bauer

Santhi Kavuri-Bauer is a historian of Islamic and South Asian art. Her research focuses on the history of Islamic monuments both in the medieval and modern periods. Her book, Monumental Matters: The Power, Subjectivity, and Space of India’s Mughal Architecture (Duke University Press, 2011) was a critical examination of the practices of monumental preservation from the colonial period to the present. Her current research investigates the influences of Islamic philosophy and mysticism in the design and forms of Islamic Indian architecture and urban planning.
