Simon Willems

Simon Willems is an artist and researcher and recently completed a practice-based Ph.D. in fine art at the University of Reading. His research considers the different ways in which anonymity is characterized within contemporary figurative painting as a representational strategy. He has shown extensively throughout Europe and North America over the last twenty years, including solo exhibtions at Torrance Art Museum (Los Angeles), FRAC Auvergne (France), Elephant West (London), Xero, Kline & Coma (London), Percy Miller Gallery (London), Galerie Polaris (Paris), Wallspace (New York) and Mark Moore Gallery (Los Angeles). In 2015 he completed a doctoral study trip to the Moderna Museet in Stockholm, which was sponsored by the Swedish Embassy in London. His work is included in several public collections including the Walker Art Center, Bronx Museum of the Arts, FRAC Auvergne, FRAC Haute-Normandie, National Museum of Gdansk and the Zabludowicz Collection.
