Sinikka Torkkola

Sinikka Torkkola is a senior research fellow at Tampere University and an adjunct professor (docent) at the University of Oulu. She has a Ph.D. (2008) in journalism and mass communication in social science from the University of Tampere. Besides health communication, her research interests include the gender of journalism and political journalism. She has conducted studies on health journalism, social media and health, gendered journalism and political scandals. She is currently working on the research project the Pressures of Ignorance and Disinformation on Expertise, a subproject of the larger project Struggling with Ignorance: Negative Expertise and the Erosion of the Finnish Information Society at the Turn of 2020. She acts as vice chair of the Health Communication Temporary Working Group at the International Association for Media and Communication Research IAMCR and is a member of the International Council of IAMCR. She has worked as a visiting researcher at the University of Bucharest (Romania), the University of Oregon (USA) and Lomonosov Moscow State University (Russia).
