Socrates Stratis is a Ph.D. architect, urbanist and activist for the urban commons, associate professor, at the Department of Architecture, University of Cyprus (www.socratestratis.com). He is one of the two main founders of the agency AA & U, Cyprus (www.aaplusu.com). His research focuses on the political agencies of architecture and urban design regarding conflict transformation. His work oscillates between critical urban practice and practice-based research, thanks to many entanglements between teaching, practicing, curating and writing. The Guide to Common Urban Imaginaries in Contested Spaces (jovis, 2016) is one of his main editorial works. His curatorial and activist work involves the Cyprus participation in the 15th Venice Biennale of Architecture (www.contestedfronts.org), as well as the ‘Hands-on Famagusta’ project (www.handsonfamagusta.org).
