Sonia York-Pryce

Sonia York-Pryce (Dr of visual arts, BA in digital media [Hon] from Griffith University, BA in visual arts from Southern Cross University), is a dancer and interdisciplinary artist. From the 1960s to the present day, she has been trained and danced extensively in ballet and contemporary dance, initially in the United Kingdom and later settling in Australia in 1994. For her doctoral research, she examined how senior professional dancers, still performing over the age of 40, navigate the bias of ageing and discrimination, and the effect it has on their practice. She interviewed numerous dancers in Australia and internationally, including the founder members of NDT3 and Berlin’s Dance On Ensemble, who demonstrate ‘how their embodied practice rather than their age defines them’.
