Srabani Basu

Srabani Basu is an Indian Classical Danseuse (dance form Odissi) with nearly twenty years of training–performing experience. She has an academic background in computer science and engineering with professional association as a senior consultant in IBM India. In the pursuit of her further interest in dance studies, she has done coursework on ‘Indian Classical Dance Pedagogy’ from the University of North Carolina, Charlotte (2021) and ‘Introduction to Psychology’ from Pune University affiliated institution in India (2022). Her research paper on ‘Gender studies as applied in Indian dance traditions’ was published in Narthaki (April 2022). During this unique process of balancing her corporate career and her continuous quest for exploring various aspects of dance to grow as a performer–scholar, she faced constant challenges to bridge the gap and started developing a perspective to understand dance beyond its most popular scope of physicality as a performing art. This cognizance led her to conduct independent research on perceiving Indian classical dance as an effective mode of therapy.
