Before joining the University of Portsmouth in 2010, Steve worked for 25 years as a sound recordist in the film/TV industry, specializing in observational documentaries. He won a Royal Television Society Award for Fighting the War – a BBC documentary series, where he was embedded with the Black Watch during the 2003 invasion of Iraq. Film credits: www.whitford.net. As a senior lecturer, he now course leads M.Sc. Film and TV Film at the University of Portsmouth, having also led their BA Film Production course. He retains memberships of industry bodies: Institute of Professional Sound and Association of Motion Picture Sound, and has been published in Line Up: The Journal of the Institute of Broadcast Sound, Cinema Journal and International Journal of Creative Media Research. He has also been published in proceedings, such as BARN Colloquia and Festival de Cinema de Avanca, and has presented at MeCCSA Annual Conference and Geographies of Sound: Cremona.
