Tamara E. Swift
I am an elder lesbian woman of European descent living as a settler in Hawaiʻi on Kānaka Maori land who grew up on Indigenous Spokane Tribal land in Washington State. My undergraduate focus in women’s studies at The Evergreen State College, 1976, centred on improving the lives and status of women. I believe that if women ruled the world, they might have averted the climate catastrophe, which spurred me to begin a Ph.D. at UH Mānoa in the Political Science, Alternative Futures Department in August 2016. My Ph.D. journey has occurred during unprecedented US political history and the COVID-19 pandemic. These events have inspired me to start growing food and advocating for more sustainable local food sourcing and hopefully start a non-profit for assisting small farms for community food production.
