Teresa Hoskyns

Dr Teresa Hoskyns is an architectural theorist and practitioner and directs the UK base of the CRAC Collective. Her architectural practice and research focuses on the intersection between art, temporary architecture, performance, participation and public space. Much of her theory and practice work is expressed in her monograph book The Empty Place: Democracy and Public Space (Routledge, 2014). In practice, she is the designer of a series of world-class portable theatre venues that have been used to create major events throughout the United Kingdom and United States. She studied at London Metropolitan University (BA), The Royal College of Art London (MA scholarship) and Bartlett School of Architecture London (Ph.D.). Before starting at CRAC, she was an associate professor in architectural design at Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University, Suzhou, China, and lectured at the University of Sheffield and the University of Brighton and the University of Cambridge. At Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University, she created, initiated and chaired the 2019 International Conference: Architecture across Boundaries and sat on the Steering Committee for the establishment of RIBA Chapter China, responsible for education.
