Tereza Sena

Tereza Sena is a researcher at the Centre of Sino-Western Cultural Studies, School of Humanities and Social Sciences, Macao Polytechnic Institute. She has published more than 60 titles on the history and historiography of Macao, Macao’s autonomy, the intermediary role of Macao in South China’s international trade (eighteenth to nineteenth centuries), ‘foreigners’ in Macao, Macao’s cemeteries, Macao–Siam relations, missionary activity in China, Siam and continental South East Asia, as well as the history of literature and translation in Macao, contributing to several international academic projects and to the media in Macao, Portugal, China, Germany, the United States, Hong Kong, Thailand, Japan, Poland and Hungary. She won three research awards in Portugal (1994, first prize) and Macao/China (2015 and 2018, Merit Prize, monograph). Her most recent publications include ‘Camilo Pessanha (1867–1926) e os outros: Aspectos da dimensão colectiva na vida de Camilo Pessanha em Macau (1894–1926)’ (‘Camilo Pessanha [1867–1926] and the others: Aspects of the collective dimension in Camilo Pessanha’s life in Macao [1894–1926]’) (2019), and ‘Reflexões sobre a presença portuguesa nos “confins da Ásia”: Espaços, gentes e estratégias’ (‘Reflections on the Portuguese presence in the “confines of Asia”: Spaces, people and strategies’) (2019).
