Thomas Cardwell
Thomas Cardwell is an artist and researcher based in London, where he is a senior lecturer in painting at University of the Arts London, Camberwell College of Arts. His book Heavy Metal Armour (Intellect, 2022) brings together paintings and academic research to offer an interdisciplinary study of battle jacket-making in metal subcultures, and he contributed a chapter on heavy metal clothing to The Cambridge Companion to Metal Music (Cambridge University Press, 2023). In 2022–23, he was Kone fellow in the arts at Helsinki Collegium for Advanced Studies at the University of Helsinki. The paintings from this project were exhibited at Myymälä2 gallery, Helsinki, between September and October 2024.
