Thomas Conner
Thomas Conner is a Ph.D. candidate in both communication and science studies at the University of California at San Diego. His research examines the transportation of the word ‘hologram’ from its scientific, optical origins to cultural and aesthetic types of dimensional technical imagery (e.g., sciencefiction characters, the Tupac ‘hologram’), each of which reifies inherently spectral aspects of visual media. He was a pop music critic for twenty years, most recently at the Chicago Sun-Times, and served a fellowship with the National Arts Journalism Program.
