Tom Slevin

Tom Slevin is a senior lecturer in the Faculty of Creative Industries, Architecture and Engineering at Solent University, Southampton. He has a cross-disciplinary background in teaching and research across visual culture from photography to art history, film and media. His book Visions of the Human: Art, World War I and the Modernist Subject (I. B. Tauris, 2014) examined the politics and philosophy of pictorial representation by modernist avant-gardes. He has published in a number of journals, including Philosophy of Photography, Fashion Theory, Angelaki, Film International and Body and Society. He has most recently worked on a book chapter for Edinburgh University Press about the effects of X-ray technology upon cultural imaginations. He is a senior fellow of the Higher Education Academy and has received institutional awards for his teaching.
