Tony Stoller

Dr Tony Stoller CBE is visiting professor in the Media and Communications Faculty at Bournemouth University. His most recent book, Classical Music Radio in the United Kingdom 1945–1995, was published by Palgrave in December 2017. His history of Independent Radio in the United Kingdom, Sounds of Your Life (John Libbey, 2010), is the definitive work on that system. Tony Stoller began his professional career in newspapers and radio regulation, before running the Independent Local Radio station in Reading, Radio 210. He was a principal director of the John Lewis Partnership between 1986 and 1995; chief executive of the Radio Authority from 1995 to 2003, and subsequently helped to set up the new communications regulator, Ofcom. He was chair of the Joseph Rowntree Foundation from 2011 to 2017 and is currently chair of Orchestras Live, the Arts Council National Portfolio Organisation responsible for ensuring the availability of high-quality orchestral music across England.
