Valerie Oliver

Dr Valerie Oliver was awarded her doctorate in 2016 and works in alternative education. As an art practioner, she works within the community and educational institutions on various social inclusion funded projects. Her research remains within the field of fine arts focusing on existentialism and poststructuralism. This provides an analysis towards the effectiveness of contemporary art practices as a valid tool (approach) in the contexts of education and its role in social exclusion environments and social policy. This also includes the fine arts significance as a broader approach in core education settings and external organizations. As a practicing artist specializing in video installation, her process encompasses a variety of subjects, in which displacement and space are key elements. The intention behind her work allows the viewer to engage in private thoughts in public places, enabling viewers to think of their existence and question their actions within their own social structure.
