Virginie Rey

Virginie Rey is an anthropologist with an interest in museums and the foundation of ethnographic research in the Arab world. Her thesis completed in 2016 at the University of Melbourne, ‘Social Spaces of Mediation: Tunisian Ethnographic Museums (1881–2015)’, deals with the role of ethnographic museums in the changing paradigms of popular identity in this significant Islamic nation, using both historical archival sources and ethnographic methods. She is currently working on the representation of minorities in Middle Eastern museums, as well as Islamic museums in the West, taking case studies of museums established in various locations.
