Vojtěch Frank

Vojtěch Frank (Charles University, Faculty of Arts) is a Ph.D. student of musicology at Charles University, Prague, a composer and a translator. He studied musicology and East European studies at Charles University, Prague, where he is currently working on a doctoral dissertation on Soviet operettas in Czechoslovakia, their cultural and political meanings, the processes of cultural transfer and Socialist realism in operetta. He is the main researcher in an ongoing grant project focusing on Isaak Dunayevsky’s operettas in Czechoslovakia. Along with his colleague Jana Kitzlerová, he translated two volumes of Mayakovsky’s poems into Czech. His recent publications include papers in the peer-reviewed journals Oriens Aliter (2020), Svět literatury (2021) and Historical Studies on Central Europe (2022). He is also the composer of the score for one of the first Czech LGBTQ+ musicals, Otřást vesmírem (Shake the Universe, book and lyrics by Jakub Hojka), which was produced in Pilsen in 2021.
