William Gumede

William Gumede is an associate professor at the School of Governance, University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg. He is the founder and chairman of the Democracy Works Foundation. He was former deputy editor and managing editor of The Sowetan newspaper, then the largest circulation newspaper in South Africa. He is the former chairman of the Media Institute of Southern Africa (MISA) and the former chairman of the South African Civil Society Information Service (SACSIS). He is the author of a couple of number one bestsellers. Among his most recent books is South Africa in BRICS: Ruination or Salvation (Tafelberg, 2013).
