William S. Armour

William S. Armour is an honorary senior lecturer at UNSW Sydney. He has taught elementary Japanese language and courses in Japanese popular culture for more than two decades. He has also used ‘manga’ and anime as media through which Japanese language can be taught. He has also researched the use of typefaces in ‘manga’ (with Yuki Takeyama). His research has also focused on how Japanese popular culture has become part of Japan’s soft power. Currently he is involved in a project with Sumiko Iida that investigates the informal mode of learning related to how fans of Japanese popular culture learn Japanese and about Japan.
