Wiremu T. Puke
Wiremu T. Puke is of Ngāti Wairere, the mana whenua of Hamilton (Kirikiriroa), Ngāti Porou and Ngāti Tūwharetoa. (In the region of Ngāti Porou, he is known as Wiremu T. Green.) He is an independent environmental services professional who provides a mana whenua perspective for the University of Waikato on urban environmental restoration, with expertise on ecological restoration of pre-European landmarks. He is a trained ethnographic and empirical researcher and one of the few Māori carvers trained and accomplished in the use of traditional pre-steel tools. He has served as a visiting lecturer to Auckland University of Technology, University of Auckland, University of Waikato and Victoria University of Wellington in Māori traditions and pre-steel material culture, as well as in professional museum studies. He is also an associate member of the Environmental Research Institute, Te Aka Mātuatua/School of Science, University of Waikato.
