Yannis Stamos
Yannis Stamos is an adjunct lecturer at the Department of Linguistic and Intercultural Studies of the University of Thessaly. He completed his Ph.D. at the University of Birmingham’s School of History and Cultures in 2019. His doctoral research examined the political dimensions of literary criticism during the Metaxas dictatorship in Greece, primarily analysing print media of the period. From 2020 to 2022, he was a Hannah Seeger Davis postdoctoral research fellow at Princeton University, working on a Metaxas-related project. He has also contributed to a project funded by the Hellenic Foundation for Research & Innovation (ELIDEK), studying the role of religion in literary criticism during the Greek inter-war period. In 2023, he held the Marilena Laskaridis Visiting Research Fellowship in Modern Greek Studies at the University of Amsterdam with a project on radio propaganda during the Axis Occupation. His work explores the complex relationships between media, culture, ideology and politics in the first half of the twentieth century, with a particular focus on fascism and nationalism. Currently, Stamos is collaborating with Dr Alex Feldman on a research project investigating the global history of zero-sum thought, examining its influence on political and economic ideologies and praxis across different regions and periods, and proposing a new perspective on contemporary international challenges.
