Annamari Vänskä
Dr Annamari Vänskä is adjunct professor of fashion research at the Department of Design at Aalto University. Her research focuses on fashion and visual culture, particularly on fashion media, fashion advertising and fashion curating from the perspective of gender studies, queer theory and posthumanism. Vänskä is the leader of the research project ‘Intimacy, work and design’ in the consortium Intimacy in data-driven culture (IDA), funded by the Strategic Research Council at the Academy of Finland. Vänskä has published widely on fashion, gender, sexuality and curating, e.g., the monograph Fashionable Childhood. Children in Fashion Advertising (Bloomsbury, 2017) and co-edited with Professor Hazel Clark the anthology Fashion Curating. Critical Practice in the Museum and Beyond (Bloomsbury, 2018). She is the recipient of the ‘Docent of the Year’ award for research, teaching and societal impact (2013) and ‘Scientific Book of the Year Honorary Mention’ (2013) for the monograph Muodikas Lapsuus (Bloomsbury, 2012). Part of her academic work is curating exhibitions.
