Aylwyn Walsh

Aylwyn is associate professor of performance and social change at the University of Leeds’ School of Performance and Cultural Industries, where she leads the MA in applied theatre and intervention. She directs Converge with participants referred by mental health services in Leeds. Her book Prison Cultures (Intellect, 2019) maps performance, resistance and desire in women’s prisons. She is working on participatory research about activist tactics in the context of South Africa. Some of her research about protest has been published in Qualitative Inquiry, Cultural Studies ←→ Critical Methodologies and Journal of Arts and Communities. She has also published on prison and performance in Crime, Media, Culture and Contemporary Theatre Review.
